LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — Springport Township police arrested a 37-year-old Albion man Friday on several charges, including carrying a concealed weapon and drug possession, after stopping him on suspicion of stealing a mobile home.

Springport Twp. officials said in a social media post they responded Friday after hearing of a “theft of a camper trailer in progress” in the 9000 block of North Parma Road in Tompkins Twp., Jackson County.

After dispatch notified officers that the suspects had left the home in a black pickup truck and driven the RV north on Parma Road and west on Pope Church Road, Springport Township officers headed in that direction.

They discovered a trail of fresh water and sewage leading south from Pope Church Road to Crawford Road.

After following the water and sewer trail south on Crawford Road and west on Devereaux Road, they found the black pickup truck crossing M99 in Parma Township and stopped the truck.

It turned out that the 37-year-old Albion man who was driving the truck had a suspended driver’s license and “a false license plate on the vehicle,” they said. There were also two warrants out for his arrest.

When police searched the pickup, they found a gun and “suspected controlled substances,” they said.

The 37-year-old was then arrested and taken to the Jackson County Jail. He was charged with carrying a concealed weapon and possession of methamphetamine. There were two arrest warrants against him.

Michigan State Police have continued to investigate the stolen RV report. STPD said the suspected RV theft could lead to additional charges.
