Sacramento County inmate found dead in jail cell

(FOX40.COM) — A 29-year-old man died in police custody at the Sacramento County Main Jail.

At around 2:15 a.m. on Saturday, Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office officials said they were conducting a cell check at the 5-East 300 Pod when they noticed an unresponsive inmate. They reportedly followed up with first aid and medical personnel, but he was pronounced dead at the jail. The man had been incarcerated since April 20, 2022.

The cause of death is currently under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office. The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will release the name of the deceased after the nearest official is notified.
