Former Vernon doctor jailed after pleading guilty to sexual assault

A former Vernon doctor was taken into custody Thursday after pleading guilty to two additional counts of sexual assault.

Peter Inkpen appeared in Vernon Provincial Court on June 6, where he pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual assault.

Inkpen had already pleaded guilty to one count of sexual assault in February.

On Thursday, Inkpen’s bond was lifted with his consent and he was taken into custody; the court issued a warrant for his arrest, said Damienne Darby, communications counsel for the British Columbia Attorney General’s Office.

A publication ban prohibits the disclosure of case details that could lead to the identification of the victims.

Inkpen was previously arrested on July 14, 2022, after a woman reported to police that she had been sexually abused by her doctor.

Although he was taken into custody, Inkpen has not yet received his sentence on the sexual assault charges. His next court date on those charges is June 10 to set a sentencing date.
