Pune Porsche case: Police book minor father, grandfather in abetment suicide case

Pune police have filed charges against the father and grandfather of the youth involved in the Porsche car crash on May 19, and three others in a separate case related to abetment of suicide of a businessman’s son in the city.

PTI, citing authorities, reported that DS Kature, a builder in Pune’s Vadgaon Sheri area, filed the complaint against Vinay Kale. Kature’s son, Shashikant Kature, had borrowed money from Kale for the construction.

“After failing to repay the loan on time, Kale allegedly started charging compound interest on the principal amount and harassing Shashikant Kature. Fed up with the constant harassment, Shashikant Kature committed suicide in January this year,” they said.

A case has been registered against Kale at the Chandannagar police station in the city under sections 306 (abetment to suicide) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the International Penal Code (IPC).

“During investigation, the role of the youth’s father (a construction worker), grandfather and three others in the suicide case came to light. We have now added sections 420 (cheating) and 34 (common intention) of the Penal Code to the case,” a police official said, without elaborating on their alleged role in the incident.

The minor’s grandfather is currently in custody for alleged involvement in the kidnapping and wrongful detention of the family chauffeur. The chauffeur was allegedly coerced into falsely confessing to police that he was behind the wheel during the fatal accident.

The 17-year-old’s father, Vishal Agarwal, a real estate developer, and his mother are currently being held by the police on charges related to sharing the youth’s blood samples. The incident took place in Kalyani Nagar and resulted in the death of two IT professionals after the Porsche the minor was allegedly driving collided with their two-wheeler.

Meanwhile, the teenager’s grandfather on Thursday approached the Bombay High Court through his lawyer Aashutosh Srivastava with a plea, stating that he was wrongfully detained and falsely implicated in the case relating to the kidnapping and wrongful confinement of the family driver. PTI reported.

The petition argued that the investigating agencies acted solely on allegations and a complaint filed after a significant delay of five days and initiated the case against the 77-year-old senior citizen, the youth’s grandfather, without following the prescribed procedure under Section 42A of the CrPC. The petition highlighted that after the driver was released from Yerawada police station at around 11 pm on May 20 after interrogation, he was picked up by the complainant, the teenager’s grandfather.

Frightened and devastated, with his life in danger, the driver and the plaintiff mutually decided to drive to the latter’s home, the complaint said, adding that the plaintiff had assured the safety and protection of the driver and his family.

The plea has termed the driver’s complaint regarding his alleged abduction and wrongful confinement as “fabricated and false”. The HC is asked to direct the police to release the complainant immediately and demands strict action against police officers. PTI reported.
