Armie Hammer was accused of rape

By Cosmopolitan

Actor Armie Hammer is accused of raping a 24-year-old woman known only as “Effie” in 2017. The allegations were made during a virtual press conference yesterday, and Hammer’s legal team, led by Andrew Brettler, promptly denied all allegations, saying they were “outrageous” and adding: “(Their) attention-seeking and ill-advised legal attempt will only make it harder for real victims of sexual violence to get the justice they deserve.”

According to his legal team, 34-year-old Hammer also welcomes “the opportunity to set the record straight.”

Effie spoke during the press conference alongside Gloria Allred, a prominent women’s rights attorney known for taking on high-profile cases, including representing women who have accused Donald Trump of sexual misconduct – which the former president denies. She said she first met Hammer on Facebook in 2016 and “fell in love instantly.”

She went on to say that Hammer manipulated her and “tested my devotion to him until he eventually crossed my boundaries as he became increasingly violent.”

Effie said the rape took place on April 24, 2017: “Armie Hammer raped me for over four hours in Los Angeles. He repeatedly slammed my head against a wall and left bruises on my face.

“During those four hours, I tried to get away, but he wouldn’t let me. I thought he was going to kill me. Then he left without caring about my well-being. I was in complete shock and couldn’t believe someone I loved was doing that to me.”

In response to Effie’s allegations, Hammer’s legal team showed the BBC a screenshot of text messages allegedly sent by Effie to Hammer in which she can be seen suggesting extreme sexual behaviour.

Brettler, who represents Hammer, also said the acts were “entirely consensual, discussed and agreed upon in advance, and based on mutual participation” and that Hammer has severed his relationship with Effie.

Hammer and his wife of 10 years, Elizabeth Chambers, announced their divorce last summer. Last month, Chambers posted a statement on Instagram saying she supports “any victim of assault or abuse” after several women came forward to accuse Hammer of pressuring them to fulfill his extreme sexual fantasies.

Screenshots were also shared online that allegedly show Hammer – known for his role in “Call Me By Your Name” – describing his cannibalistic desires. He called them “bullshit claims” and described them as “vicious” and “unfounded.”

We have asked Hammer’s legal department for comment.
