Diocese of Buffalo details mergers, closures in northern cities

Amherst, N.Y. (WBEN) – In a series of meetings across the region, the Catholic Diocese of Buffalo continues to unveil recommendations regarding parish mergers and closures.

The latest recommendations targeted northern cities and were detailed during a session at St. Leo the Great in Amherst Friday evening.

Here are the recommendations made:

Our Lady of Peace, Clarence – merges with the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Saint Benedict, Eggertsville – merge with Saint Leo the Great.
The school will remain open and will expand to become a church

Saint Aloysius Gonzaga, Cheektowaga – merges with Christ the King

Child of Prague, Cheektowaga – merges with SS. Peter and Paul

St. Andrew, Kenmore – merge with St. Timothy

Blessed Sacrament, Tonawanda – merging with Saint Paul

Saint Francis of Assisi, Tonawanda – merge with Our Lady of Czestochowa

St. Andrew Kim RC Mission, Tonawanda – merge with St. Leo (Family #16)

Apostle Saint Jude, North Tonawanda – merge with Our Lady of Czestochowa

Saint Pius X, Getzville – merge with Saint Gregory the Great

In accordance with the announced recommendations, all current schools (except St. Andrew in Kenmore) will remain open during the 2024-2025 school year.

Four additional meetings to announce the recommendations are planned for next week.
