News Flash • Pedestrian killed after being hit by train

ABILENE, TX – On Friday, June 7, 2024, shortly before 10:30 a.m., police dispatch received a call reporting that a pedestrian had been struck by a train on North and South First Streets near the intersection of Leggett Street.

When police arrived, they found a male offender on the south side of the tracks who had apparently been struck by the passing train. Justice of the Peace Joiner pronounced the 30-year-old man dead from injuries sustained in the collision with the train.

Witnesses at the scene confirmed that the train and the man were traveling in the same direction, eastbound, when the train struck the man.

Next of kin have been notified. The man is 30-year-old Jacob Poor of Abilene. The cause is still under investigation.
