Adorable golden dachshund puppy dies on first day of dog training after incident with Bernedoodle

A golden dachshund puppy tragically died on his first day at a California dog training school after being left unattended with a much larger dog.

Olive was just a 4-pound, nine-week-old puppy when she spent her first day at Prime Paw in San Francisco.

Owner Chloe Skelly said she chose the Mission District school because of the “rave reviews” and the staff’s assurance that her beloved pet would be in good hands.

After dropping the puppy off at school in May, she received a call less than three hours later telling her to go to a veterinary clinic immediately.

Speaking to KRON4, Skelly said, “They wouldn’t tell me what happened. When I got to the SPCA, an employee told me that Olive had been playing unsupervised with a nearly 25-pound Bernedoodle puppy.”

Skelly said the employee told her staff did not know what happened and no one saw it.

It was only when Olive screamed in pain and crawled into a corner that they noticed her “instant lethargy.”

She added: “When they went over to check on Olive, they said she wasn’t breathing and had no heartbeat or pulse.”

“The employee immediately took Olive to a veterinarian, but she had already died.”

An autopsy confirmed that Olive died of a pneumothorax, a collapsed lung caused by blunt force trauma.

Skelly said this was “probably directly related to the blow from this other, much larger dog.” She said the vet also found signs of internal bleeding.

According to Skelly, the school posted a video on social media of Olive with a cut on her back that she said wasn’t there when she left.

The owner was heartbroken and blamed Prime Paw for Olive’s death, so he explored legal options with the help of lawyers.

However, Skelly told DailyMail.com that she ultimately accepted an offer from Prime Paw’s owner, which covered basic costs for Olive, such as the breeder’s fee, vet bills, toys and cremation.

“She was my first puppy who should have spent more years with me,” said Skelly. “I only had 10 days. We were both robbed of our lives together far too soon.”

“It breaks my heart that her little life was cut so short and so carelessly. It’s unfair.”

In a statement to KRON4, James Baybayan, owner of Prime Paw, expressed his condolences on Olive’s sudden death.

Baybayan said: “We are deeply saddened by the tragic death of a puppy named Olive. Veterinarians found that Olive had a pneumothorax – a collapsed lung – but there were no signs of trauma.

The grieving owner blames Prime Paw for Olive’s death and posted a detailed statement about her experience on Instagram

“According to the veterinarians who took Olive in, there is no identifiable reason for her death.”

The company’s website describes it as a dog training center in San Francisco with a positive, science-based approach.

According to Prime Paw, they have safely cared for thousands of dogs in their nine years of operation. This is the first reported death at their facility.

Speaking to DailyMail.com, Skelly said: “I want everyone to know that I have no intention of ruining this man’s life by publishing this story. I just wanted him to take responsibility so we can move on.”

“I shared this story to hopefully save other puppies from the same fate and to save other puppy parents from the same heartache I have felt all week.”
