Carson City man arrested on suspicion of possession of child pornography

A 67-year-old Carson City man was arrested Friday on suspicion of possession of child pornography.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office, along with the Northern Nevada Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force and Department of Homeland Security Investigations, executed a search warrant on the home of Darrell Wayne Thomas, a press release said.

The arrest followed an investigation that began in March when the ICAC Task Force received a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Investigators found child sexual abuse material (CSAM) being downloaded at a Carson City residence. Investigators executed a search warrant and seized several items.

Thomas is being held in the Carson City Jail on $50,000 bail.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office is part of the regional fight against child exploitation by assigning a detective to the ICAC Task Force. This cybercrime is closely investigated in cooperation with the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office, Sparks Police Department, Federal Bureau of Investigations, Nevada Attorney General’s Office and Department of Homeland Security Investigations.
