FC Barcelona star Frenkie De Jong attacked by another Dutch legend

FC Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong was attacked on Dutch television by another Dutch legend.

The midfielder was criticised by Euro 88 winner Ruud Gullit, who was called a “ghost” earlier this week. Ziggo Sports.

And this time it was Wesley Sneijder, the 2010 World Cup finalist, who criticised Barca’s $81 million transfer from Ajax while appearing on the television talk show. The Orange Sun.

“You can’t expect Frenkie to pick up the ball from Virgil van Dijk, dribble it all the way down the pitch and then shoot it into the net or provide an assist, you just can’t expect that,” explained Sneijder.

He also said that de Jong is not a 10 at all in his performances, but more of a 6.

“Sometimes we forget in Holland that Frenkie is more of a number 6 and a corrector who should actually be a link player,” Sneijder analyzed, seeming to agree with his critics.

“Frenkie has not been consistent enough in recent years,” Sneijder noted. “He had a fantastic year at Ajax, which earned him a ‘very nice’ transfer. But if you look at the last few seasons, Frenkie has also been injured a lot and that wears on you.”

As mentioned, Sneijder’s remarks follow those of Ziggo Sports by AC Milan legend and former Ballon d’Or winner Ruud Gullit, who described De Jong as a “ghost”.

“I’ll tell Frenkie something,” said Gullit. “I started as a right winger at Feyenoord, but then Johan Cruyff said to me: ‘Ruud, you have to improve your teammates.’ I never understood that. But do you know why he told me that? Because when you improve your teammates, you always play well.”

“If you look at Frenkie de Jong at the last World Cup, he was like a ghost! He has to take matters into his own hands,” Gullit demanded.

During the same channel’s Champions League coverage, Rafael Van der Vaart said that De Jong plays “like a postman”.

“Frenkie de Jong plays football like a postman,” mocked Van der Vaart.

“He takes too long to pass the ball forward and instead he runs on and gets it to his teammate.”

“As soon as you get away from your opponent, you have to keep the ball moving and pass!” the former Real Madrid star advised him.

Now de Jong has to convince his compatriots with a strong European Championship in Germany.
