Accident involving military vehicle leads to closure of eastbound lanes of I-580 near San Leandro

A military vehicle that overturned on its side after an accident on eastbound Interstate 580 near San Leandro Friday afternoon blocked lanes for more than two hours, according to the CHP.

The accident occurred around 2 p.m. An aerial photo shows the vehicle on the shoulder of eastbound I-580 near the 164th Ave./

CHP reported that troopers were standing on the side of the highway next to the vehicle. There were no reports of injuries, but at least one emergency vehicle called to the crash blocked lanes of the highway. The video also showed fuel or oil leaking from the vehicle.

At around 3 p.m., CHP posted a video on X of a tow truck righting the vehicle.

At 4:35 p.m., all lanes were reopened, CHP said. Drivers should expect further traffic delays.
