Wycombe man found guilty of raping girl on London train

Awsaf Ahmed, 30, of Rutland Avenue, High Wycombe, was found guilty of trapping a girl in a toilet and raping her as he traveled on a train towards London’s Marylebone station on Tuesday, October 10, 2023

The court heard how Ahmed engaged the victim and her group of friends in conversation, asking them their ages and whether they smoked weed.

Ahmed then pressured the victim to leave her alone by forcing her to speak to him privately in the toilet and insinuating that he had friends everywhere, making her fear for her boyfriend’s safety.

When Ahmed entered the toilet, he locked her in and raped her despite her repeated requests to stop.

After the attack, he added her on Snapchat to continue contact with her.

The victim reported the rape to British Transport Police the following day. Later that evening, Ahmed called the victim on Snapchat and asked her, “When are you turning 16?” and “Did you like it yesterday?”

The court also heard how Ahmed attempted to entice a 15-year-old girl into sexual activity on October 16, 2023.

He initially engaged her in a conversation about her jewelry and her heritage, before the conversation became more threatening, telling the victim that anyone was capable of killing and that if you disrespected him, he would kill someone with just one You can make a text message or a call disappear.

He then turned the conversation to relationships, asking the 15-year-old for relationship advice before asking her about her own relationship status and sexual experiences.

He then tried to force her to engage in sexual activity with him. Luckily the victim was able to put the situation behind him and reported Ahmed to Bedfordshire Police the next day.

On October 27, Ahmed was arrested and charged with the offenses committed on October 10 and 11, 2023. The investigations were linked and Ahmed was also charged with the offenses committed on October 16.

Ahmed was also found guilty at Inner London Crown Court of enticing/inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.

Ahmed had already pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing to the charge of causing/inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.

The sentencing date was set for Friday, June 14, 2024.

British Transport Police investigating officer Detective Constable Matthew Nolan said: “Ahmed is a callous predator who targeted young girls for his own sexual gratification.

“Despite the victim’s repeated pleas to stop, he trapped her and raped her, leaving her fearing not only for herself but also for her friend’s safety. I hope the guilty verdict helps give her some closure.”

BTP senior investigating officer Detective Inspector Paul Attwell said: “These were extremely frightening experiences for Ahmed’s victims and I commend them for reporting him so we could take action.”

“Ahmed’s coercive and threatening behavior towards young, vulnerable girls will not be tolerated on the rail network or anywhere else and I am grateful to see today’s verdict.”

Detective Constable Rani Bailey, from Bedfordshire Police’s Protecting Vulnerable People (PVP) team, said: “Ahmed’s behavior was unacceptable and his actions were predatory. We tirelessly pursue those who find this behavior acceptable and remain committed to bringing perpetrators to justice.

“No matter what happened, if someone makes you uncomfortable or violates your boundaries, it’s never too late to come forward and report what happened to you.”
