Man arrested after alleged kidnapping, sexual assault and attempted extortion of $300,000

A woman was kidnapped and sexually assaulted before her captors used images of the attack to extort money from her, New South Wales Police claim.

On the evening of April 20, officers were called to a street in Epping, northwest Sydney, where they learned that a woman had allegedly been forced into a Toyota Camry by a group of unknown men before the vehicle drove away.

The following day, detectives met a 36-year-old woman at another address in western Sydney. She told them she had been drugged and sexually assaulted.

The woman was immediately taken to hospital for treatment.

Then, on Monday, April 22, police searched a home in Eastwood and allegedly found items of clothing belonging to the woman, prohibited drugs and restraints believed to have been used during the alleged sexual assault.

All items found in a bin were confiscated for forensic examination.

This week, on Friday 7 June, Sydney detectives extradited Yanyu Mu from Victoria.

Police allege he was involved in the woman’s kidnapping and drugging, and took photographs of her during the alleged sexual assault, threatening to release the images unless she paid him $300,000.

The 29-year-old was taken to Mascot Police Station where he was charged with a number of offences, including holding/confining in company with intent to ransom causing actual bodily harm, aggravated sexual assault in company and intentionally recording intimate images without consent.

Mr Mu is due to appear before the Parramatta Bail Court on Saturday.
