Man tries to get into woman’s car in ‘stressful incident’

A man attempted to gain entry to a woman’s car while she was sitting in it.

At approximately 4.50pm on Friday 26 April 2024, a woman was sitting in the passenger seat of a parked vehicle on Lower St Edmund Street when an unknown man approached.

It is reported that the man attempted to open the driver’s door before walking to the passenger door and attempting to open it.

The woman managed to keep the door closed and the man was unable to get into the vehicle.

Dorset Police are now appealing for witnesses and anyone with information to come forward following a suspicious incident in Weymouth.

He is described as white, in his late 60s and around 1.70 meters tall with a white beard and moustache.

The man was wearing a blue puffa-style jacket with a “Freedom Trail” logo, tan khaki pants, a gray wool hat and silver wire-rimmed glasses with tinted lenses.

Police Sergeant Matthew Love, of Weymouth Police, said: “The man made no attempt to speak to the woman in the vehicle but it was a disturbing incident for her.

“We would like to identify the man to clarify the full circumstances of the incident and would ask anyone who recognizes him from the description provided to contact us.”
