Houston Astros’ Kyle Tucker placed on 10-day injured list with right shin contusion after fouling ball against St. Louis

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — King Tuck’s throne will be empty for a little while.

The Houston Astros placed star right fielder Kyle Tucker on the 10-day injured list Friday as he continued to deal with the effects of a bruised right shin.

Tucker, 27, who leads the team in home runs and RBIs, fouled a ball off his shin during Houston’s 7-4 win over St. Louis on Monday.

Astros manager Joe Espada said Friday that Tucker is moving better but progressing slowly.

X-rays revealed no breaks, but Tucker needed crutches to get around after the game, MLB.com reported.

The team has not announced a corresponding roster move, but calling up Joey Loperfido or Grae Kessinger from Triple-A is possible.

Loperfido made his debut on April 30 and played primarily in the field in 14 games, earning 13 hits, including a home run.

Trey Cabbage, Houston’s trade acquisition from the Los Angeles Angels, started in right field Friday against his former team.
