Amit Kapoor suspended from Aam Aadmi Party following extortion allegations – Statetimes

JAMMU: The Aam Adami Party (AAP) on Friday expelled Amit Kapoor from the party for allegedly being involved in extortion and coercion. Kapoor has been in police custody since June 5.
In a communiqué to Amit Kapoor, who is currently in police custody, AAP Jammu Province Senior Vice President SS Shingari said, “It has come to our knowledge that you are accused of extorting money from a person associated with the JDA and such an act of gross indiscipline will not be tolerated in the Aam Aadmi Party. After deliberations on the matter at the appropriate level, it has been decided to suspend your membership of the party with immediate effect.”
“Upon the instructions of the appropriate disciplinary authority, I hereby inform you that your membership has been suspended with immediate effect and in all respects,” the suspension letter signed by SS Shingari continued.
On June 5, Jammu police arrested Amit Kapoor in Jammu bus stand area while he was demanding and accepting money from a government employee.
On June 6, the Court of 2nd Additional Munsiff sent Amit Kapoor to seven-day judicial remand to investigate an extortion case registered against him at the Bus Stand Police Station and various complaints filed against him at different police stations.
Complainant Avinash Kumar, an employee of the Jammu Development Authority (JDA), filed a complaint with the bus stand police on June 5, stating that Amit Kapoor had threatened him to leak certain documents to the media if he did not pay him Rs 10 lakh.
Self-proclaimed activist and leader of the so-called Parents Association, fraudster Amit Kapoor, has been arrested under Section 387 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) under FIR 31/2024.
