One of the 2023 Houston Texans’ most impressive stats could improve this season

The Houston Texans had a great season in 2023, but how good? Well, they won the AFC South title, picked up their first playoff win since 2019 against the Buffalo Bills, and saw two of their rookies earn Rookie of the Year honors. Besides guys like CJ Stroud and Will Anderson coming into the league as emerging stars, they also have one of the most promising head coaches in DeMeco Ryans.

He led the team to a major turnaround, which saw the birth of the playoffs, a division championship and a 10-win season in his first year. Yet it wasn’t just the individual successes that made the season special; the Texans were one of the best teams in the league.

According to Warren Sharp on Twitter, only nine teams have won more games than the Texans in which the team has ever trailed. The Texans had five, tied with the Kansas City Chiefs and Minnesota Vikings.

The teams that had more were the Buffalo Bills, Green Bay Packers, Jacksonville Jaguars and Miami Dolphins, who all had six. Then there were the Cleveland Browns and Baltimore Ravens who had seven. Three teams had eight; the Dallas Cowboys, Detroit Lions and San Francisco 49ers.

Something to note, with the exception of the Packers and Jaguars, the best teams in the NFL this upcoming season are some of the biggest heavyweights the league has to offer. Being among them is proof that Texans are on the rise.

It was a solid year for the Texans, but it will improve in 2024. That number of just five games in which Houston never trailed is likely to increase in quantity this coming season. The team added Stefon Diggs and Danielle Hunter; real stars in his league with plenty of talent left in them. The team will also improve as younger players continue to develop and key players like Stroud mature further.

The schedule will be tougher this season, that’s not in dispute, but the Texans should be too. The team seems to want to increase that number this year. If they can increase their total further, you might see this team play later in the winter as well. There seems to be a correlation between teams having the best playoff runs and the ability to start and stay hot in a game.
