Florida couple arrested in death of child who died of oxycodone overdose

LARGO, Fla. – A couple was arrested by Pinellas County police after a child died from an oxycodone overdose.

The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) responded to a residence in Largo on March 9 for a report of a child’s death. They found a 17-month-old child unconscious in a playpen who was pronounced dead. According to PCSO, numerous controlled substances were found in the home, including Oxycodone and Xanax.

According to PCSO, Adela Allen, 42, gave investigators conflicting statements during questioning, while Kyle Allen, 43, told investigators he was on his way to work when the child died.

PCSO learned that the child’s cause of death was oxycodone poisoning.

PSCO detectives again interviewed Adela and Kyle. Kyle admitted to detectives that he had sold narcotics that Adela had given him. Kyle denied that he had any narcotics in the house that he knew about at the time of the child’s death, according to PCSO. Adela continued to give conflicting statements to detectives, telling detectives she did not know how the child could have died from oxycondone.

Adela was arrested and charged with child neglect (aggravated assault), possession of hydromorphone, possession of morphine, possession of acetaminophen and hydrocodone, possession of alprazolam, possession of diazepam, possession of oxycodone, possession of methadone, and possession of clonazepam.

Kyle was arrested for unauthorized use of a two-way communication device and conspiracy.

Both were taken to the Pinellas County Jail.
