Police arrest man who allegedly dragged woman into car at gunpoint and sexually harassed her

A man who Lexington police say forced a woman into a car at gunpoint and then sexually assaulted her has been arrested by police in Scott County.

According to Lexington police, the kidnapping and robbery occurred on May 4.

Two days later, police said they were called to the 1300 block of Village Drive for an assault. There, the woman told them she was dragged into an apartment complex at gunpoint and then dragged into a car, according to a Lexington police news release Friday.

Police said they identified 24-year-old Jose Cabellero-Vasquez as a suspect using the Real-Time Intelligence Center, Flock license plate readers and traffic cameras.

Caballero-Vasquez was arrested by Georgetown police on Thursday and held at the Scott County Detention Center. He is charged with kidnapping of an adult and first-degree sexual abuse, police said.

In court records and on the Scott County Jail website, the suspect’s name is spelled Caballero-Vazquez.

Fayette County District Court records show that Caballero-Vazquez was involved in an accident on Monday afternoon and that Lexington police charged him with driving without a license and negligent causing an accident the same day in connection with that incident.

Police declined to answer questions about whether he had previously been identified as a suspect in the kidnapping case or how he was arrested in Georgetown on Thursday.

Anyone with information is asked to call Lexington Police at (859) 258-3600.
