Citibike rider killed on 11th Avenue in Hell’s Kitchen

A Citi Bike rider was killed Friday afternoon at the corner of 11th Avenue and W50th Street when his pedal-assist e-bike collided with a truck.

The first emergency call came in to emergency services at around 2:30 p.m. It said that a male cyclist had been hit by a truck at the intersection in Hell’s Kitchen.

Police closed W50st Street at 12th Avenue and began diverting traffic east and west from W51st Street while emergency crews cleaned up the aftermath of the accident.

The Citi Bike was lying in the right lane of 11th Avenue and the cyclist’s body was covered with a purple emergency blanket. A truck marked “Lagunitas IPA” remained at the scene while police waited for investigators.
