Austin Police Interim Chief Henderson is not seeking permanent position

Austin Police Interim Chief Robin Henderson will not be the next permanent chief because she did not apply for the position and intends to retire once a new permanent chief is hired, according to a memo obtained by the American-Statesman.

The memo, which City Manager TC Broadnax sent to the City Council and mayor on Friday, said the city had negotiated an agreement with Henderson for him to stay in the department to assist with the transition.

Hiring a permanent police chief is a top priority for Broadnax, who took over as city manager last month. The application period began last month and ends Monday. Community members also have the opportunity to take an anonymous survey to learn what qualities they want in the next police chief.
