Man arrested for raping his step-granddaughter

MANILA, Philippines – A 59-year-old man accused of raping his step-granddaughter for over two years was arrested in Quezon City.

The suspect, a resident of Barangay East Kamias, was arrested by police officers in a decoy operation at a motel in Barangay Silangan at around 6:20 p.m. on Thursday.

The suspect’s arrest came after the victim’s mother filed a complaint after discovering that he had been sexually abusing her daughter since 2022.

Based on the complaint, police officers under the supervision of the Chief of the Women and Children Affairs Division of the Quezon City Police District, Maj. Rene Balmaceda, conducted a decoy operation.

The suspect was arrested accompanied by the victim, who was rescued by police officers.

The suspect is being held for violating the provisions of Republic Act 7610 or the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act and RA 11930, which criminalize online sexual abuse and exploitation of children.
