NYPD officer shot man during driving aggression incident in Camden County: officials

VOORHEES, NJ — An NYPD officer has been charged after he shot another man during an apparent incident of driving aggression in Camden County, authorities said.

Hieu Tran shot the victim with his service weapon after an accident last month in Voorhees, according to the Camden County District Attorney’s Office (CCPO). An ambulance took the victim to Cooper University Hospital in Camden, where he remains under treatment.

Tran, 27, was charged with attempted first-degree murder, second-degree aggravated assault and second-degree illegal possession of a weapon on Thursday. The New York Police Department arrested him the same day.

Voorhees police responded to the car crash at approximately 11:15 p.m. on May 17 at the intersection of Route 73 and Cooper Road. Arriving officers found one of the drivers at the scene suffering from a gunshot wound, the CCPO said.

Authorities said officers identified Tran, a resident of Yonkers, New York, as the shooter using surveillance cameras, cellphone records and ballistics data.

Tran is being held in New York and is pending extradition to New Jersey.
