Knoxville Police Continue to Seek Community Support Ahead of Helmets and Hot Dogs | KNIA KRLS Radio

The Knoxville Police Department is looking for additional support from the community ahead of its annual helmet and hot dog event.

This event has already received a significant donation from Weiler and two new bicycles were also donated by Wal-Mart. Helmets and Hotdogs continues to hope for the support of community partners to make the event as successful as possible, whether through a monetary, bike or helmet donation.

The event, which will take place on May 24th, is a way for families to celebrate the last day of school with a community safety event. Aimed at preschool through fifth grade, it offers children the opportunity to have their bicycle helmets inspected by the Knoxville Police Department. If you don’t have a helmet, you can get a helmet while supplies last. This is also an opportunity to prepare a children’s bike for summer. There will also be various demonstrations and exhibits so children can learn how to stay safe throughout the summer. Knoxville Police Chief Aaron Fuller encourages the community to contact his department if you would like to donate.

“If you have any questions or would like to donate to Helmets and Hot Dogs, if you would like to be a part of Helmets and Hot Dogs, I would encourage you to contact school resource officer Cody Nichol, office staff here Kacie Nicholson or Angie Hartzel.”

The event will feature prizes and lunch.
