Nearly 900 Houston Students Receive Free Laptops From AT&T

HOUSTON – Hundreds of Houston-area students received laptops this week thanks to AT&T.

AT&T’s Summer of Connectivity program provided 900 students with FREE refurbished laptops. The students were pre-selected by Compudopt.

The company’s “H-Town Summer of Connectivity” program is part of its effort to help bridge the digital divide by connecting students to skills, resources and opportunities for success in school and in the community. life.

According to the United States Census Bureau, nearly 2.8 million households and 7 million people in Texas do not have access to broadband. Twenty-three percent of Texans cannot attend classes online, see a health care provider virtually from their living room, fill out a job application online, or go online to start a business or access information virtual markets from their kitchen table. Nationally, more than a third (35%) of American households are not connected to the Internet.

“Closing the digital divide for Houston students is critical to their future by improving access to countless opportunities – from education to the economy and beyond,” said state Rep. from Texas, Armando Walle. “I’m honored to join AT&T for the ‘H-Town: Summer of Connectivity’ launch event, and I appreciate AT&T’s commitment to Houston’s students.
