MIRAMAR, Florida. — Broward Sheriff’s Office officials have identified the man they say stole a pickup truck Thursday and led them on a chase.

BSO spokesman Carey Codd said detectives attempted to stop 43-year-old Jonathan Markel Turner of Miami Gardens in downtown Broward around 4:20 p.m.

According to police, Turner crashed into a patrol car and then sped down the Florida Turnpike, leading to a chase that eventually ended with officers crashing into the car near Northwest 27th Avenue.

Authorities arrested Turner for aggravated assault on a police officer, fleeing and eluding, grand theft auto, hit and run with property damage, and driving without a license – a chronic traffic offender.

According to online records, Turner has been held without bail at the BSO Main Jail since Friday morning.
