Atlanta Braves should pursue more starting pitching

As the Atlanta Braves prepare to be active ahead of the MLB trade deadline, recent reports indicate that they will look to strengthen their pitching staff.

It’s been a good and bad season for the Atlanta Braves this year. On the bright side, they currently sit in second place in the NL East and look to be making the playoffs once again this season. On the bad side, they lost both arguably their best hitter, outfielder Ronald Acuna Jr., and their best pitcher, Spencer Strider, for the season.

Despite dealing with severe injuries, the Braves continue to find ways to win games. One of the reasons for their success is their pitching staff, even without Strider. Despite this, recent reports indicate that the Atlanta Braves will look to add another big arm to their rotation according to Jeff Passan. Here’s what he had to say.

“Despite the Braves’ offensive struggles and wonderful pitching, opposing teams see Atlanta’s greatest need on the mound, even after losing the reigning NL MVP,” Passan wrote.

Even though the pitching staff has been great for the Braves so far this season, their long-term performance may not be sustainable. Chris Sale was once again one of the best pitchers in baseball, which was a surprise. Additionally, the Braves have had a great season from Reynaldo López, who has an ERA below 2.00.

One of the reasons the Braves have had so much success is that very rarely in recent years have they settled for the trade deadline. With a very talented Philadelphia Phillies team in their division, the Braves know they have to be buyers at the trade deadline.

While we will likely see the Atlanta Braves try to add depth to replace Acuna, we also need to keep an eye on the possibility that they look to add to their already solid rotation.
