Today is the third First Alert Weather Day in a row with dangerous extreme heat

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Partly sunny skies and highs of 111 degrees are expected in the Valley today. Yesterday’s high of 112 degrees marked our first 110-degree day of the summer and also set a new daily high temperature record. Today’s record is higher at 115 degrees, but today’s forecast high of 111 degrees is still well above our average high of 102 degrees.

It’s another First Alert Weather Day with a heat warning in effect until 8 p.m. It’s going to be hot across the state, with Flagstaff reaching temperatures in the high 30s today, which is a near record. The city broke its record for Thursday with a high of 33 degrees, which is also the earliest day all summer that Flagstaff has had 32 degrees.

Winds will pick up a bit in the high country today, which could affect the Bravo Fire near Bellemont. Smoke could also affect Flagstaff later in the day. Southwest winds between 15 and 25 mph are expected today, but should ease slightly to 10 to 20 mph on Saturday.

Strong high pressure is bringing hot temperatures today, but clouds are also moving in from the south at mid- and high altitudes. This also brings with it a slight chance of thunderstorms today and into the weekend, especially in the higher elevations of eastern Arizona.

Temperatures are expected to drop slightly over the weekend, to around 48 degrees on Saturday and 41 degrees on Sunday. A warming up to around 48 degrees is expected in the middle of next week.
