Pitbull terrier shot dead after attacking man and woman in Cork house – The Irish News

A pitbull terrier was shot dead by Gardaí after attacking a man and woman in a house in Cork.

Gardaí and the Armed Response Unit were called to a house in Ballyphehane, near the town, at around 5.20pm following reports of a pit bull terrier attacking residents.

A man and a woman who were injured by the dog were taken to Cork University Hospital for medical examination and treatment.

Gardaí said they had spoken to the dog’s owner and, after unsuccessful attempts to tranquilise the animal, it was shot by the armed forces and put down by a vet.

This is the second incident this week in which a dog was shot after attacking someone.

Nicole Morey died on Tuesday after being attacked by her dog at her home in Limerick, hours after celebrating her 23rd birthday.

Emergency services and the Regional Armed Support Unit responded to a house in Ballyneety, County Limerick, at around 11.40pm.

The woman was treated at the scene by paramedics but succumbed to her injuries. Her body was taken to Limerick University Hospital for an autopsy.
