Rideshare driver in Melbourne charged with alleged assault on 19-year-old woman

A Melbourne teenager was allegedly held captive and raped by a Victorian rideshare driver early Monday morning.

The 19-year-old woman was allegedly attacked after getting into what she believed to be a rideshare car in Melbourne’s CBD shortly before 2am, even though she had not reserved it.

Victoria Police said a 43-year-old man was arrested at his Pakenham home on Thursday morning before being questioned by officers.

He has since been charged with rape and false imprisonment and police confirmed that his rideshare license has been revoked.

The man is due to appear in Melbourne Magistrates Court on Friday afternoon.
