TCS employee suspended after reporting security incident, Reddit post goes viral

A Reddit user recently shared a disturbing experience on the platform. They claimed that they were fired from TCS (Tata Consultancy Services) after they reported a security issue. Under the username @Personal_Stage4690, they posted the following on the Developers India subreddit: “I reported a security incident at tcs where my manager forced employees to use their personal laptops and share login credentials.” According to the TCS Whistleblower Policy, may no action will be taken against the whistleblower, but today I received a suspension notice.”

They also explained that their strained relationship with HR and their manager made them feel like they could not rely on them for support. They asked the Reddit community, “What should I do in this situation?”

The post quickly caught the attention of users, who offered various suggestions. One user advised: “Raise it on LinkedIn. Marking senior officials of the Tata Group. (Not just TCS). This entire act is against the Tata code of conduct. Spread this like wildfire on x, LinkedIn and other social media platforms.

Another suggested: “Raise this issue with the TCS Ethics Committee.” They will definitely look into it. When I was at TCS ILP, I remember there was an altercation between the faculty and one of our staff members. The faculty told the staff member that they would fail him in the final, and they did. He reported her to the ethics committee and a team came to the ILP center to investigate. The associate was later handed over.

While the OP claimed that the company overlooked its whistleblower policy, TCS’ policy available online clearly states that the company “condemns any kind of discrimination, harassment, victimization or other unfair practices against whistleblowers.” For those unfamiliar, a whistleblower is someone who reports wrongdoing that affects the public interest to an authorized person or organization.
