BANGOR TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) – Authorities say the driver of a stolen vehicle was arrested following a chase in Van Buren County.

The Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday that officers are searching for a vehicle stolen in Covert Township. An officer on patrol found the stolen vehicle near County Road 380 and 62nd Street in Geneva Township.

The deputy stopped the vehicle, but while he was talking to the driver, the driver sped off and a chase began. The vehicle reached speeds of 100 miles per hour before the driver lost control and skidded near the intersection of County Road 376 and 63rd Street, according to the sheriff’s office.

The suspect, a 43-year-old man from Watervliet, fled but was arrested a short time later. He was taken to Van Buren County.
