Traffic disruptions on I-20 eastbound due to accident and construction

THOMSON, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – Eastbound Interstate 20 was closed around 6 p.m. Thursday, more than three hours after an accident that left people injured in the area and as a result of a passing storm.

From the Columbia County-McDuffie County line, eastbound traffic came to a standstill for at least several miles.

On eastbound I-20, that stretch was already one lane due to construction, but the Georgia State Patrol said there were no active crashes there as of 6 p.m.

Because of the wet road, drivers in the single-lane construction site are apparently simply reducing their speed.

However, an accident occurred nearby earlier in the day.

The accident with injuries occurred around 3 p.m. on I-20 eastbound near mile marker 179.
