Private school teacher in Dallas arrested for sexually abusing children – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth

Dallas police have arrested a former private school teacher after a child sex abuse investigation that lasted more than a year, and police now believe there may be more victims.

The Dallas Police Child Exploitation Squad said it issued an arrest warrant for 46-year-old Matthew Harmon, who was charged with sexual abuse of a child. Harmon was taken into custody and released in May after posting bail. It is not clear if Harmon has an attorney to speak on his behalf.

Investigators told NBC 5 that the alleged crime occurred in 2007 and involved a victim Harmon met while working at Providence School in Dallas, a Christian school where he worked as a teacher and coach from 2004 to 2007.

The police investigation also revealed that Harmon had worked as a volunteer at Trinity Christian Academy for several years at a wilderness camp for 8th graders. Police said he also worked at a popular summer camp called Kanakuk in Durango, Colorado, and Branson, Missouri, between 1995 and the mid-2000s.

Investigators told NBC 5 they found Harmon came into contact with thousands of children through his work and volunteer efforts. Dallas police said they have identified additional victims and believe there may be more victims they have not yet identified.
