Kangana Ranaut’s slapping incident draws renewed attention to controversial post on farmers’ protest 2020 | All you need to know

Kangana Ranaut, the newly elected BJP MP from Mandi constituency in the Indian state of Himachal, made headlines again on Thursday after a CISF policewoman allegedly slapped the actress-turned-politician during a security check at Chandigarh airport.

The accused police officer, identified as Kulwinder Kaur, was heard in the videos that went viral on social media platforms, raising strong objections to Kangana’s controversial remarks during the 2020 farmers’ protest.

The policeman’s mother was at a farmers’ protest

In a viral video, Kulwinder Kaur was seen saying, “My mother was there,” referring to Kangana Ranaut’s statement that women were paid in the farmers’ protests 100 are said to be stationed at the border with Delhi.

I wanted to spend 100-100 rupees but the farmers protested, what’s the point? I love this cute little mermaid (Kangana said the women sat in the farmers’ protests for 100. Will she go and sit there? My mother was sitting there and protesting when she made that remark), Kaur said.

The policewoman was later suspended and taken into custody. An FIR was registered against her and the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) initiated a commission of inquiry.

Kangana concerned about ‘terrorism in Punjab’

Following the slapping incident, Kangana Ranaut expressed her concern over the rising terrorism in Punjab. The BJP MP alleged that a police officer approached her from the side and slapped her in the face before launching into a tirade. When Kangana asked the police officer the reason for the attack, he responded by expressing support for the farmers’ protests.

“As soon as I came out of the security check, the lady from the second booth, a CISF security guard, came from the side, slapped my face and started abusing me. When I asked her why she did this, she said she supports the farmers’ protests. I am safe, but I am worried that terrorism is on the rise in Punjab… How do we deal with this?” Kangana said.

Kangana’s contribution to the farmers’ protest 2020

Rewind to 2020, when scores of farmers marched to Delhi to protest against the now-repealed farm laws. During the farmers’ protests, Kangana Ranaut courted controversy when she misidentified an elderly woman at the demonstration as Bilkis Bano, a prominent figure from the Shaheen Bagh protests.

In a now-deleted tweet, the actor claimed the woman was “available for 100″ to take part in protests. This statement sparked significant backlash and condemnation and led to a heated exchange on social media between Kangana Ranaut and actor and singer Diljit Dosanjh. Dosanjh criticised Ranaut for spreading misinformation and asked her to stop inflaming tensions.

Although Kangana deleted the tweet after widespread criticism, she received numerous legal warnings demanding an unconditional apology for her “derogatory” remarks.
