Salisbury judge sentences man to 40 years in prison for sexually abusing a minor | Latest news

SALISBURY, MD – A Wicomico County judge sentenced Kiowa West, 41, of Cape May, New Jersey, to 40 years in prison for sexually abusing a minor.

Wicomico County Prosecutor Jamie Dykes said West sexually abused a child under the age of 13 in his household for several years from 2011 to 2018.

West pleaded guilty to second-degree sexual offense and attempted second-degree sexual offense on December 8, 2023. Sentencing was deferred pending the completion of a mandatory examination and mental health evaluation.

After his 40-year prison sentence, West must register as a Tier III sex offender for life and be subject to a sex offender monitoring agency, according to a press release.

Dykes praised everyone involved in the investigation and prosecution of this case.

“Justice was served in this case thanks to the multidisciplinary approach of the Wicomico County Child Advocacy Center, the courage of the survivors and the decisive ruling of the court,” Dykes said. “I hope this resolution brings healing and closure to the survivor and her family.”
