‘Regrettable’: Congress leader Vikramaditya on alleged Kangana Ranaut slapping incident | News from Chandigarh

NEW DELHI: An unfortunate incident took place at Chandigarh airport on Thursday when a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) official slapped BJP MP Kangana Ranaut.

Congress MP Vikramaditya Singh expressed his dismay over the incident and stressed that action must be taken against the official responsible.

“It is unfortunate when such incidents happen and they should not happen to anyone, especially a woman. It is unfortunate that a security official has done such a thing. We have learnt that the security official had some complaints related to the farmer’s protest,” Singh told ANI.

He further stressed that it is the duty of the CISF to ensure a peaceful atmosphere within the airport premises.

“You have a constitutional right and a platform to raise your grievances and issues. Attacking a person in this manner is unfortunate. The government should take action against that person. Once you are inside an airport, you are under the security protection of the CISF and it is their duty to ensure your safety and a peaceful atmosphere,” Singh added.

Reacting to the incident, the Central Industrial Security Force suspended the policewoman who allegedly slapped Kangana Ranaut. A senior CISF official confirmed the suspension and mentioned that they were in the process of filing a complaint against the policewoman.

“We have lodged a complaint against the policewoman concerned at the local police station. She has been suspended with immediate effect and an investigation has been ordered into the matter,” the officer said.

The incident occurred around 3:30 pm when Kangana Ranaut was preparing to board a flight to Delhi.

Reacting to the situation, Ranaut said, “I am safe. I am perfectly fine. The incident took place during the security check. After I was done with the security check, a woman CISF constable was waiting for me to go through the booth. Later, she came from the side, slapped me on the face and started abusing me.”

“When I asked her why she did this, she told me that she (the CISF official) was supporting the farmers’ protests. My (Kangana) question is how can we put an end to the growing extremism and terrorism in Punjab,” the BJP leader added.

Meanwhile, the CISF police officer in charge gave her side of the story. She mentioned that her mother was among the farmers who staged a sit-in against the agrarian laws, which have since been repealed.

“She said the farmers would sit there for 100 rupees. Should she go and sit there? My mother was sitting there and protesting when she made this statement,” the police officer said.

Kangana Ranaut defeated Congress candidate Vikramaditya Singh in Mandi constituency in the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh by a margin of 74,755 votes.
