Spotsylvania County, New York woman arrested after allegedly murdering roommate

SPOTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Virginia (DC News Now) — The Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) said the woman who wanted in connection with the murder of her roommates was arrested on Thursday evening.

The US Marshals Service, along with the New York State Police, have arrested 23-year-old Alyssa Venable following a chase in Steuben County, New York.

At around 5:45 p.m., New York State Police (NYSP) officers saw a gray 2009 Honda Civic that matched the description of the car Venable was driving. When officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop, Venable did not stop, leading to a chase at speeds of up to 100 mph.

During the chase, police officers used a device to deflate tires, which led to a car accident.

Venable was taken into custody and subsequently treated at a hospital as a precautionary measure.

No one else was injured in the chase.

According to SCSO, Venable was wanted in connection with the murder of her three roommates in Spotsylvania County.

SCSO officers responded to a home in the 10500 block of White Street Ct. around 10 p.m. Tuesday to check on welfare payments and found the bodies of Robert John McGuire, 77, Gregory Scott Powell, 60, and Carol Anne Reese, 65.

According to SCSO, all three bodies appeared to have suffered trauma to the upper body area.

The NYSP will obtain an arrest warrant for her before she is extradited, the SCSO said.

She is charged with, among other things, second-degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a crime.
