Melbourne rideshare driver charged with raping teenager

A ride-share driver has been charged with rape and false imprisonment after a teenager was allegedly attacked after getting into his vehicle.

The 19-year-old woman was sexually assaulted in Melbourne’s central business district shortly before 2am on Monday after she got into a vehicle she thought was a rideshare, police said.

Officers arrested a 43-year-old man at his home in Pakenham on Thursday.

He was accused of rape and false imprisonment and his rideshare driver’s license was confiscated.

The man is due to appear in Melbourne Magistrates Court on Friday on the charges.
