Fresno Police Chief Paco Balderrama is under investigation for “inappropriate off-duty relationship”

FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – The City of Fresno says it is investigating what it describes as an “inappropriate off-duty relationship” between Fresno Police Chief Paco Balderrama and an individual not employed by the city.

City officials say Police Chief Paco Balderrama informed Mayor Jerry Dyer and City Manager Georgeanne White in February of an allegation that would likely be made against him related to an “inappropriate outside-of-work relationship he had with a non-city employee.” On Thursday, city officials released that information publicly.

According to officials, the city has launched an administrative investigation. An independent investigator from the district attorney’s office will determine whether the police chief violated department policies. The investigation is reportedly in the review process.

Despite the investigation, Chief Balderrama will remain in office and continue to serve as chief of the Fresno Police Department.
