Michigan: Man arrested again with revoked driver’s license

Corey Harris can’t seem to get out of the headlines.

Harris initially gained notoriety for attending a virtual court hearing despite his license being suspended. But as more details emerged, it emerged that his license was supposed to be reinstated but was never submitted for review.

In the footage, Harris can be seen joining the call while driving his wife to the doctor. Once he parked, Judge Cedric Simpson confirmed that he had been driving with a suspended license. Harris’s stunned face when he learned of his license sent shockwaves through social media. Simpson then challenged Harris to turn himself in before 6 p.m. that same day.

On June 5, Harris appeared before the same judge and it was revealed that he had never held a driver’s license.

“He has never had a license. Ever. And he has never had a license in any of the other 49 states or Commonwealths that make up this country,” Simpson said.

“When they revoked his license … they didn’t revoke his license, they revoked his privilege to drive in the state. So if he had a Kentucky license, he could have driven anywhere Kentucky allowed him to drive. He just couldn’t drive in Michigan because his license was restricted. He didn’t have a license. Ever.”

It was reported that in January 2022, a judge ordered Harris’ suspension to be lifted so he could drive again. However, according to the Michigan Secretary of State’s office, the Saginaw County Friend of the Court never transmitted the authorization, so his suspension was never lifted. Simpson claimed Harris failed to take the necessary steps to get his license back.

“I know he never had a driver’s license because he applied for his first Michigan ID on May 3, 1999 – he was 19 at the time,” Simpson said. “He has gotten a new ID every year. So he knows he doesn’t have a driver’s license.”

At the end of the hearing, Harris was arrested and taken to the Washtenaw County Jail, where he awaited police pickup in Allen Park.
