“Like a slap in the face,” says the brother of a missing woman found dead | WDHN

HENRY COUNTY, Alabama (WDHN) – Crystal Jarvis’ loved ones are shocked and devastated after discovering she never returned home safely after five days of disappearance.

“We thought she would show up, but she didn’t. When they were found dead, it was like a slap in the face. It’s a difficult time for us right now,” said her brother Eddie Jarvis.

During a welfare check by police on Monday, Jarvis was found behind an abandoned lakefront home in the 2500 block of Calhoun Drive – just minutes from where she frequently lived with someone.

Her autopsy found no evidence of foul play, but her brother found it strange that a suspect was in custody who has since been released – and still raises more questions than answers about the mysterious death.

“The first thing that comes to mind is: No crime, why was there a person of interest? We’ll sit back and let the sheriff do his job,” he said.

The family says Jarvis has been missing since last Tuesday, when she was released from the Eufaula jail on a public disorderly conduct charge. Before her arrest that same day, her brother says she was at a gas station and claimed someone was going to kill her. After her release Tuesday, they lost contact with her and never heard from her again.

“Hug your loved ones, you never know when it will be the last time,” he said.

Jarvis says his sister was a construction worker and remodeled houses on the side – she never met strangers and had a big heart.

“She loved God and there was never a dull moment around her,” he said.

Her family set up a GoFundMe page to help with funeral expenses since she did not have life insurance.

“At this point in time, anything can help,” he added.

She leaves behind a mother, four children and four brothers.
