Dead whale recovered from Casco Bay

PORTLAND, Maine – A large, dead whale was pulled from Casco Bay Thursday, officials say.

Portland Harbor Captain Kevin Battle told NEWS CENTER Maine that a humpback whale apparently entangled in a net was towed to the Portland Yacht Services yard by the Maine Marine Patrol around noon.

Battle said the cause of the whale’s death was unclear.

From 3 p.m. onwards, the crews attempted to load the whale onto a low-loader using a boat lift.
