Hampton Police Honor First Black Female Lieutenant

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — Hampton Police have promoted their first Black woman to the rank of lieutenant, police said.

Lt. Ashley Jenrette made history on Wednesday. Jenrette was surrounded by family, friends and other members of the Hampton Police as she received her lieutenant pin.

“The fact that it’s me makes me proud, but more than that, it’s a big step for the division in terms of diversity,” Jenrette said. “That’s something police departments need to do better so that the police department reflects the community. I think the Hampton Police Division does a great job of that.”
