Portland man charged in Andover stabbing: State Police

ANDOVER, CT – A Portland man was involved in a stabbing Wednesday that ended in an armed standoff with state police.

According to a police report, state police were called to Andover Pizza on Route 6 at 10:35 p.m. Wednesday after receiving a complaint about a man armed with a knife who was causing a disturbance.

When police arrived, they were met by a man coming out of the bar with a bloody knife, a police report said. The police drew their service weapons and ordered the man to drop the knife, which he did, according to the police report.

He was taken into custody without further incident, state police said.

The man was later identified as 36-year-old Samuel Bitcon of Portland.

A man was found in a restroom at Andover Pizza with a stab wound to the abdomen and was taken to St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center, an arrest report states. Another man was found inside the establishment with a minor head wound as a result of a confrontation with Bitcon, an arrest report states.

Bitcon was charged with breach of peace, assault and second-degree threatening. He was held overnight on $100,000 bail and was scheduled to appear in Rockville Superior Court on Thursday, state police said.
