Teenager dead, another arrested after shooting in Griffin: police

GRIFFIN, Georgia — Police say one teenager is dead and another is behind bars following a fatal shooting Wednesday night in Griffin.

Griffin police said it happened in the 1100 block of W. Poplar Street.

At around 10:30 p.m., officers arrived and found a 15-year-old boy who had been shot. He was taken to Wellstar Spalding Regional Hospital and then to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he later died, according to police.

After an investigation, police identified a 16-year-old boy as the suspect and arrested him shortly thereafter. The teenager is charged as an adult with murder, aggravated assault, possession of a weapon by a person under 18, and possession of a weapon during the commission of a felony.
