Depraved rapist who imprisoned and robbed his victim has ‘a decade to reflect’

A “depraved” Sheffield man who raped, assaulted, wrongfully imprisoned and robbed a woman has been jailed.

Haseeb Khalil, 27, of Flaxby Road, Sheffield, was sentenced to a total of nine years and nine months in prison for rape and a string of other offences.

On November 27, 2023, officers responded to reports of two men seen with a gun and a knife in the Darnall neighborhood. Officers arrived on the scene and learned that a robbery had occurred and a woman had been raped.

An investigation was launched immediately and an item of clothing belonging to Khalil was seized at the scene. Officers raided Khalil’s address the same day and searched CCTV footage taken nearby.

On December 1, 2023, Khalil was charged with crimes including rape, sexual assault and robbery, and co-defendant Amaad Yaseen was charged with robbery.

Khalil was sentenced at Sheffield Crown Court on Friday 24 May for rape, sexual assault and false imprisonment committed on 27 November 2023.

He was additionally convicted of two counts of robbery, possession of an imitation firearm with intent to commit robbery, possession of a bladed knife in a public place and theft from a store. These offenses also occurred on November 27.

Yaseen, 27, of Stainforth Road, Sheffield, was sentenced to a total of 20 months and four weeks in prison for shoplifting, possession of a sharp knife in a public place and failing to surrender to police. His outstanding charges – possession of an imitation firearm with intent to commit robbery and two counts of robbery – will be noted on the record.

Detective Constable Gareth Rees said: “Khalil’s shocking series of crimes has caused untold suffering to his victims and I am pleased that both he and his co-defendants have been locked up.

“The nature of Khalil’s crimes, in which he raped and robbed his victim, are truly reprehensible and are reflected in a lengthy prison sentence in which he will have almost a decade to reflect on the pain he has caused. I am proud of the work of our officers in bringing these offenders to justice and taking dangerous criminals off the streets of South Yorkshire.”
