Man, 64, has to serve 20 years in prison for sexual assault on minors | Guam News

A 64-year-old man will spend the next 20 years in prison for sexually abusing a 9-year-old girl.

William Robert Reyes, 64, was sentenced Tuesday in Superior Court of Guam to 20 years in prison for first- and second-degree sexual offenses.

The Attorney General’s Office announced in a press release the “harsh prison sentence” imposed by Judge John Terlaje.

“Judge Terlaje recognized that the defendant violated the trust of a vulnerable victim he knew and that a sentence less than 20 years would lessen the seriousness of the offense,” the release said, before adding that Reyes is receiving treatment for his methamphetamine addiction will be.

The Attorney General’s Office also thanked the victim for his courage in coming forward and preventing others from being sexually abused.

“Pedophiles deserve prison, especially pedophiles who have voluntarily chosen to use drugs that are proven to be addictive and lead them to commit violent crimes,” the press release continued.

Reyes was accused on December 13, 2022 by a 19-year-old woman of sexually abusing her when she was 9 years old.

Reyes, who left the island and did not return until November 2023, was subsequently arrested and charged. Court documents say the sexual assault occurred between 2012 and 2013. The woman said she was sleeping in her room when she woke up to Reyes touching her stomach. She then felt Reyes touching her under her underwear and him sexually assaulting her.

About two weeks after the first woman filed her complaint, another accuser, a 17-year-old girl, alleged that Reyes had sexually abused her seven years earlier.

Reyes was found guilty at trial in February of this year.
