A “truly depraved” man who raped, wrongfully imprisoned and robbed a woman has been jailed.

Haseeb Khalil, 27, of Flaxby Road, Sheffield, was sentenced to nine years and nine months in prison at Sheffield Crown Court on 24 May for rape and a string of other offences.

His co-defendant Amaad Yaseen, 27, of Stainforth Road in Sheffield, was sentenced to 20 months and four weeks in prison for shoplifting, possession of a sharp knife in a public place and refusing to surrender to police.

The offences all occurred on November 27 last year in Darnall, Sheffield.

South Yorkshire Police said officers were called to reports that two men were seen with a gun and a knife. At the scene, they learned that a robbery had taken place and that a woman had been raped.

Investigations have been launched and video surveillance of the crime scene has been examined.

Officers then searched Khalil’s address and seized an item of clothing from Khalil at the scene. He and Yaseen were later charged.

Following the verdict, Det. Con Gareth Rees said: “Khalil’s shocking series of crimes has caused untold suffering to his victims and I am pleased that both he and his co-defendants have been locked up.

“The nature of Khalil’s crimes, in which he raped and robbed his victim, are truly reprehensible and are reflected in a lengthy prison sentence in which he will have nearly a decade to reflect on the pain he has caused.”

In addition to the rape and false imprisonment charges, Khalil was also sentenced to prison for two counts of robbery, possession of an imitation firearm with intent to commit robbery, possession of a bladed knife in a public place and shoplifting.
