Car accident in Westmoreland: One person seriously injured

WESTMORELAND, NY (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) — One person was hospitalized as a result of a car crash in Westmoreland, according to the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office.

On Thursday, June 6, officers were called to State Route 5 in the Town of Westmoreland at approximately 9:54 a.m. Further investigation revealed that one of the cars in the two-vehicle crash – driven by 44-year-old Sabrina Potter of Rome – was traveling eastbound on State Route 5 near the intersection with Deans Highway.


While driving, Potter collided with another vehicle driven by 73-year-old Margaret Dowling of Waterville. Dowling was taken to Wynn Hospital in Utica with life-threatening injuries.

According to the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office, the accident is still under investigation and reconstruction. The sheriff’s office is asking the public for any additional information. The Oneida County Sheriffs were assisted on scene by the New York State Police, the Central Oneida County Volunteer Ambulance Corps and the New York State Department of Transportation.
